Clean and Care
Gemstones and precious metals need special care when wearing, storing, or cleaning. They can be exposed to certain conditions and chemicals that can damage them. Do not wear your jewelry when doing housework or sports. Never wear jewelry while in a swimming pool. Put your jewelry on after washing and applying makeup and/or hair spray Do not store stone jewelry in direct sunlight. This can cause the color to fade. Protect your jewelry from scratches, blows and chemicals. You should also clean them frequently to maintain their sparkle. Soak them in a solution of warm soap and water. You may use a soft brush to loosen dirt. Dry gently with a soft cloth. When storing, wrap in fabric or paper to keep them separate so they don't scratch other pieces of jewelry. Precious metals pieces should be stored in a plastic bag. Pearls, coral, and porous stones should be kept away from dirty water and oils to avoid discoloration. Wipe them gently with a soft, damp cloth. Be cautious about the use of ultrasonic cleansers. Amethyst Clean with warm, soapy water and a soft bristle brush. Gold-Filled You can clean it gently with a polishing cloth or use a mild solution of ammonia and water. Store in a plastic bag. Jasper Jasper the polish on Jasper will often be washed away in water. Clean with a soft dry cloth. Pearl Pearls can lose their luster. Proper care can extend their life. Extreme dryness, acids, perspiration, cosmetics, and hair spray can affect them. They can be easily scratched. Store them so that their surface doesn't touch metals or other gemstones. Do not to store them in plastic bags. It is better to just wipe them with a damp cloth. Sterling Silver Over time sterling silver will develop a patina. It will give an antique feeling to the piece, which many like. This is the result of a natural chemical process that occurs when sterling silver is exposed to chemicals (chlorine, cosmetics, hair spray and perfumes among others). Wool, rubber bands, latex gloves, direct sunlight, perspiration and humid environments can also cause it. The patina can be removed easily when first noticed ( a yellowish tint); but it will be more difficult to remove as it turns brown and eventually black. To prevent it, wash your jewelry occasionally with mild dish soap and warm water, or gently polish with a cloth designed for use on sterling silver. Rinse well and dry completely with a soft cotton cloth before storing in a sealed plastic bag to keep out the air. This will help keep it's shine. Vermeil
